Meet the Star of the Month 🌟 Introducing Lindsey Washington, AMFT! 🌟
From her exceptional dedication to brilliant ideas, Lindsey is our new Associate Family and Marriage Therapist hire that has already made an impact on our team and organization. Get to know the face behind the magic in this month’s Staff Spotlight! 🎉
1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your role at WIN, and how long you’ve been with the organization?
My name is Lindsey, I’m a Compton native, and a recent graduate of Marital and Family Therapy from California State University, Dominguez Hills. I started my journey with WIN a year ago as a therapist trainee and recently transitioned to being a full-time therapist at WIN. I’m so excited to be here.
2. What led you to pursue a career in mental health therapy?
I wanted to become a therapist because of my lived experience growing up as a Black, queer woman from an underserved community coupled with my experience as a Kindergarten teacher in Compton. As a teacher, I was curious about my students and their families’ stories, and deeply passionate about building relationships where my students could thrive mentally and emotionally. I often found myself researching and implementing strategies in the classroom to support my students’ holistic wellbeing and I enjoyed doing that more than teaching content! That experience helped me realize that I wanted to help break down the stigma of receiving mental health services in the Black community.
3. Apart from work, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
I love roller skating on the beach, crocheting, and trying new drink combos. My favorite drink is probably my Starbucks order–a Strawberry Acai Lemonade with light ice, raspberry syrup, and strawberry puree.
4. How do you unwind and relax outside of the office?
My favorite thing to do at the end of the week has been going to sound baths in the community.
5. Share a fun or interesting fact about yourself that your colleagues might not know!
One fun fact about me is that I was trained in ballet and other dance forms growing up. Dance is my first love and I hope I can incorporate it more into my work one day.
